DART Riders Advised to be Prepared for Severe Winter Weather

Posted February 21, 2013 in Des Moines West, Downtown, Community Web Exclusives, Web Exclusives

Bus riders are advised to be prepared for harsh winter conditions Thursday evening and Friday morning. Poor road conditions will likely require bus operators to slow down for safe travel, causing delays in the schedule.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a significant winter storm with heavy snowfall during Thursday evening through Friday. If bus travel is essential during this time, riders are advised to dress warmly and wait for the bus in safe, visible areas. Morning commuters are advised to bring suitable clothing for their return trips in the evening.

The Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART) operates service during severe weather so people can make essential trips. Only in the most extreme conditions will DART suspend service. In such a rare event, DART will communicate the suspension via local media, on its website, through social media, and with its rider email list.
