Lynne and Jim Jackson will present a program on parenting at Faith Lutheran Church.

There are many books on parenting and the proper methods to raise a child. From the first steps to the first blast of teenage rebellion, it seems there is an endless list of literature providing numerous opinions on what the new parent should be doing. The problem with these books is there is no one available to explain the grey areas; the moral topics that differ from family to family.

It’s never easy to admit that you need help, but when parenting stresses get to be too much, Faith Lutheran Church is there to offer an alternative to your reading material. There will be a free childcare and parent workshop entitled “Discipline that Connects with Your Child’s Heart,” hosted by Faith Lutheran Church Children and Family programming on March 3, from 5:45 – 7:45 p.m.

At the workshop you will learn to not only help your child but also help yourself grow as a parent. You will learn techniques to prepare your heart for discipline, and the importance of connecting with your child emotionally before disciplining.

“Jim and Lynne Jackson are authors of ‘How to Grow a Connected Family’ and have more than 40 years of combined professional experience with behaviorally challenged and high-risk children and teens. Their engaging stories and teaching invite parents on a profound and practical learning adventure,” said Melinda Litter, Director of Children and Family Ministry at Faith Lutheran Church. “Books and other merchandise will be available for purchase from the Jacksons at the end of the workshop as well as a 15 minute Q and A.”

Along with the workshop there will also be a free will offering dinner that will be served before the event, provided by the Youth and Family Ministry for the mission trip fundraiser. Any family is welcome to come out and enjoy a great meal, take their children downstairs for childcare and receive some opportune parenting advice from Jim and Lynne Jackson, the founders of Connected Families and the authors of the workshop and the book it spawned. The entire evening will be held at 10395 University Ave. For more information, contact or go to
