James Nelsen

James C. Nelsen, the son of Christian and Francis (Mitchell) Nelsen, was born September 18, 1933 at Jefferson, Iowa and departed this life February 8, 2013 at his home in Lohrville, Iowa. He lived his life to the age of 79 years, 4 months and 20 days.

Jim attended school and at the age of 17 joined the United States Army in 1950. He served during the Korean War and received an honorable discharge in September of 1954. Jim was very proud of his service to his country and was a member of the Lohrville American Legion.

On December 18, 1954, Jim Nelsen was united in marriage to Mary Rose Kalous in Tennessee. Five children were born to this union. The couple made their home in Lohrville and Jim worked for the Simplot & Soil Builders for 20 years and attained the position as manager. He then drove trucks for several companies and individuals for 20 years; retiring in May of 2012. Trucking was a job he really loved.

Jim is survived by his wife, Mary, five children; Mary Genice Easton of Waukon, Iowa, Mike of Lohrville, Chris and his wife, Deb, of West Des Moines, Patty Nierling and her husband, Dan, of Waterloo and Carl and his wife, Lori, of Lohrville, 15 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, two brothers; Delbert of Leigh and Carl of Grand Junction and a sister, Diane Deavers of Grand Junction.

Those who preceded him in death were his parents, two brothers; Reese and Marlin and two sisters; Carolyn and Beverly.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, February 11, 2013, from the Brown Funeral Home in Lohrville with Rev. Lexie Kirkpatrick officiating. Burial was made in the Evergreen Cemetery near Lohrville with military rites by the Lake City American Legion. Songs played at the service were “Roll on Eighteen Wheelers” and “I’m Proud to be an American”

Serving as casket bearers were Ryan Kraft, Zach Brumbaugh, Ben Nelsen, Austin Nelsen, Cole Collis and Tyler Nelsen.
