As preparation for the Lenten season continues, many will begin reflecting on what it is they will do or give up during that time. Some may choose to sacrifice their most tempting sweets, while others take the volunteer route. If you’re having a tough time deciding, St. John’s Parish encourages you to consider its Pre-Lenten Day of Reflection on Saturday, Feb. 9, from 1 – 4 p.m. It will be led by retired Bishop Joseph Charron.

On Ash Wednesday, Feb. 13, St. John’s will have two Masses with the distribution of ashes at 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. The church will also celebrate for The Rite of Sending and the Rite of Election for the catechumen and candidates who are involved in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults on Sunday, Feb. 17. The Rite of Sending will be at St. John’s at the 9 a.m. Mass and the Rite of Election will be held at St. Ambrose Cathedral in Des Moines at 1:30 p.m. The Lenten Reconciliation Service is scheduled for Sunday, March 3 at 4 p.m.
