Looking for some financial guidance? Whether you’ve lost a job or are a recent college graduate deep in student loan debt, Zion Lutheran Church has got you covered.
The church will be hosting a 13-week DVD course called Financial Peace University from Feb. 28 to May 22. The group will meet Tuesdays from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. in the basement classroom.
Financial Peace University stresses teaching God’s way of handling money through a variety of techniques, including videos, discussion and small group work. Topics include super saving, dumping debt and buyer beware. The only cost is the FPU membership kit, which is $93 and will be ordered during the first class on Feb. 28. Contact the church office to register. Even if you’re on the fence, attend the first meeting for free and get a preview of what’s to come.
The course was created by financial guru Dave Ramsey and has been used all over the country, recently making its way to Iowa churches. Ramsey is a motivational speaker and specializes in helping those with debt. If the fact that churches all over the state have been offering his course isn’t enough to gain your trust, perhaps his TV appearances will change your mind. Ramsey has been featured on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” and “60 Minutes” for his expertise.
If you can’t make it to the course, or can’t get enough of Ramsey’s insight, plan a trip to see him live in Des Moines. Ramsey will be in town Wednesday, April 24 at 7 p.m. at the Civic Center, located at 221 Walnut St. Get your tickets at www.desmoinesperformingarts.org. He will be hosting the event with his daughter, Rachel Cruze, and will focus on more than just money. Ramsey will share his own personal struggles with bankruptcy as well, and give you tips for strengthening your marriage and leading your kids with confidence.
