Adventure Life Reformed Church youth members will embark on a mission trip to Costa Rica following Valentine’s Day.

Saint Valentine’s Day has always been celebrated as a symbol of love for significant others, family and friends, so what better way to spend it than in the fellowship of the youth groups of Altoona churches?

The day after the Valentine’s holiday, 13 members of Adventure Life Reformed Church will be heading to Costa Rica on a 10-day mission trip aimed at helping fellow churches, schools and orphanages in San Jose. The missionaries will be taking puppets and craft supplies to bring joy to the lives of the children living in one of the many orphanages throughout the country. Another goal is to provide locally-written Bible storybooks to each child in need. Pastor Patrick McDermott from River of Life Church, which meets in the same building as Adventure Life, helped organize the trip to partner with his home church in San Jose and continue renovation work and education of children who attend. For more information about the mission trip to Costa Rica or other events going on at Adventure Life, contact the church at 515-967-5184, or stop by and visit at 1700 Eighth St. S.W.

Before Adventure Life youths head out to on their mission, however, the youth group at Altoona Christian Church will host the second annual Youth Valentine’s Banquet and Talent Show. Everyone is invited to join in on the celebration. The festivities and banquet begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17, and a freewill offering will be collected. Reservations can be made by calling 515-967-4382 or by emailing altoonadcc@msn.com by Feb. 10. The offering collected will be used to support the youth group’s summer mission trips.

Lutheran Church of the Cross would like to invite all high-school-aged youth in the community to join its Adventure Youth Group, which meets in the Cross Creek Building every Wednesday from 6 – 8:15 p.m. The group begins the evening with a shared meal and fellowship, and then breaks off into small groups for worship and discussion on the “topic of the night.” To join in on the fun, stop by Church of the Cross at 1701 Eighth St. S.W.
