Ruth Marion (Shoemaker) Boal, 90, died Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Trinity Center at Luther Park in Des Moines. Visitation will be Friday, January 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Care, 7975 University Blvd in Clive. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, January 19 at Masonic Cemetery followed by a Memorial Service at 1:30 p.m. at Trinity Center Community Room.
Ruth was born in Grandview, Louisa County, IA in 1922 and lived in Mason City, before moving to Des Moines in 1938. Married at Niagara Falls in 1941, she lived in Buffalo, NY and Omaha, NE before returning to Des Moines in 1945. Ruth was employed by Deans Studios before becoming a lifelong homemaker. She was a member of Mount Olivet White Shrine where she presided as Worthy High Priestess, the Order of the Eastern Star, Worthy Matron, Noble Grand of Rebekahs and a member of Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War, Auxiliary #16.
Ruth was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 70 years, Paul Laverne Boal. Ruth is survived by her children, Beverly Boal of Des Moines, Patricia (Jim) Dearduff of Clive and Steven (Lynne) Boal of Urbandale; her sister, Joan Thompson of Aurora, IL, her grandchildren, Jeremy (Vicki) Dearduff and Erika (J.C.) Jurkiewicz; and three great grandchildren all of West Des Moines as well as several nieces and nephews.
