Ruth Hanson Adrian, 90, passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 19, at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Urbandale, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.

Ruth was born in Belmond, Iowa, on June 16, 1922, to Lydia and Helmer Hanson. She grew up on the family farm which was always a sentimental part of her life. After graduating in 1939 from Belmond High School, she attended and graduated from Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa. On August 2, 1945, Ruth married Veylard Adrian. Over the years, she held many Executive Secretarial positions and was always proud of her work. She met many wonderful friends and neighbors along the way in her life. Ruth greatly enjoyed playing the piano, was a member of several Lutheran church choirs and was an avid bridge player. Ruth was a member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Gloria (Bill) Miller of Plano, TX and Marlys Adrian of Johnston; two grandchildren, Corey Abbott and Nicole (Brad) Kline; 16 great-grandchildren, and her sister, Helen (Elmer) Holtan. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Helmer and Lydia Hanson; brother, Omar Hanson; her dear husband, Veylard; and granddaughter, Melissa Abbott Dean.

The family wishes to thank the staff at ManorCare in West Des Moines and most recently Bishop Drumm Care Center and Mercy Hospice for their kindness and ensuring that her last days were peaceful.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church.
