Happy New Year! It’s a fresh year, and a new start.
It’s time to look back and look ahead.
It’s time for goal setting.
It’s time to accomplish something that has been on your list, but you’ve never quite “gotten around to it.”
You know — like 85-year-old Lois Houselog of Dubuque who recently received her GED from Northeast Iowa Community College’s Dubuque campus — 71 years after she finished eighth grade.
Wow! What an accomplishment! I recently saw this featured on the news, and I thought to myself, “I wonder how many of us have a similar desire? The desire to do something, but for one reason or another it hasn’t happened?”
It doesn’t have to be as ambitious as graduating from high school, but it can be volunteering, taking a cruise, getting your black belt in karate, reading the Bible, taking a class — you get the idea. What is it that you’ve always had a burning desire and wanted to do, but for some reason or another, you just haven’t done it? Do you have the resources and the capacity to do it now? If so, what’s stopping you?
Let’s make this “This is the year I’m going to…”
I’d love to hear your stories, and share them anonymously with others in this column. You can email them to me at firstname.lastname@example.org or send them “snail mail” to the address at the end of this article.
Young or old, it doesn’t matter.
Make this your year.
