The Jefferson-Scranton Schools Board of Education will have their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, January 16th at 5:15 PM at the South Grade Building in the conference room.

There are three main issues on the agenda for discussion.  The Board will consider approving a second reading of a voluntary retirement policy.  The policy would enable any faculty, staff, or administrator to retire if they were 55 years of age by June 30th and had worked in the school district for at least ten years.  A policy similar to this has been in place for the last three years.

The Board will also be considering a second reading of a Fund Raising policy.  Fund Raisers are currently approved by each building principal.  Based on a recent audit, this policy needs to reflect that fund raisers are approved by the school board.

The Board will also be discussing the development of a policy related to reading/literacy.  The State Legislature approved a bill last year stating that if students are not proficient in reading at the end of third grade, they would be required to attend summer school or face possible retention.  The Jefferson-Scranton Board is considering a similar policy that would look at literacy/reading proficiency and the possibility of linking this with attending summer school
