Funeral Services for Katherine Vincent, 101, of Jefferson, IA will be 10:30 am Tuesday, at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson. Burial will be in the Jefferson Cemetery, Jefferson, IA. Visitation with the family will begin at 9:30 am Tuesday 1 hour prior to the service at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson.
Katherine Edna Vincent was born April 3, 1911 in Jefferson, Iowa to John Weston Owens and Mable Hanson Owens. She passed away January 12, 2013 at the Greene County Medical Center Long Term Care in Jefferson, Iowa at the age of 101 years.
Katherine spent her entire life in the Jefferson area and attended Jefferson High School. After high school, Katherine worked at Robinson’s Shoe Store in Jefferson. On March 4, 1930 Katherine was united in marriage to Floyd Vincent. They were the parents of three children: Jerry, Jane, and Phyllis.
After, their marriage, Katherine went to work in the home. She loved being a homemaker, it gave her the opportunity to do what she loved, taking care of her family and cooking and baking. Katherine would often be found baking, or when Floyd would bring her some fresh vegetables from the garden she would be busy canning. They lived on a farm east of Jefferson for 20 years then moved north of Jefferson. Floyd retired from farming in 1970, and they moved into Jefferson.
Katherine was a member of the Central Christian Church, where she was in the CWF and served as chairman of one afternoon group. She was also a member of the neighborhood club.
Katherine is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, son-in-law Jack Christy, brothers: Eldon, Leland and Kenneth, sisters: Treva Curry, Lois Beeson, and Phyllis Henrickson. She is survived by her son Jerry (Annie) Vincent of Jefferson, IA; daughters Jane (Olin) Shane of Urbandale, IA, and Phyllis Christy of North Mankato, MN; brother Bob Owens of Jefferson, IA; sisters Bonnie Duncan of Jefferson, IA and Norma Huffman of Henry, IL; 13 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; other relatives; and friends.
