Janet Keenan

Janet Keenan, 83, passed away peacefully on January 9th, 2013, at Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston.

Helen Janet (Bussanmas) Keenan was born on May 30th, 1929 to the late Mary and Otto Bussanmas. Janet graduated from St. Joseph Academy where she held the distinction of being the first student who did not miss one single day of school for all 12 years.

In 1949 Janet married John (Pat) Keenan. During the early years of her marriage, “Aunt Janet” loved to be involved in the lives of her nieces and nephews. Many of them have fond memories of spending time with her at the roller-skating rink. As her own children grew, “Mrs. Keenan” as she was affectionately known, was always “one of the gang”. Later, “Grandma Keenan” could always be counted on to play a card game or watch a game show. Everyone loved summers at Clear Lake with the Keenan’s.

Janet lived at Bishop Drumm Care Center and is said to be the 2nd longest resident in their history. Her infectious laughter and mischievous nature brightened the days of both the residents and the staff for over twenty years. She loved sunshine on her face and could usually be found sitting outside on the patio. She was an avid sports fan and loved flowers—the brighter the better!

Janet is survived by three daughters: Mary Pat (Larry) Phillips, Janell (Tom) Beebe, Peggy (Craig) Miller ; two sisters: Clara Ann Guisinger and Sister Corita Bussanmas BVM, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Pat, son Tom Keenan; three sisters and two brothers.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2013, at Our Lady of Peace Chapel at Bishop Drumm where the family will receive friends one half hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery.

The family is requesting that memorial contributions be sent to Bishop Drumm Care Center. Online condolences will be welcomed at
