Tantalizing Choices

Whew, the crowds have quieted. The Christmas rush has come and gone. So, like all good women and dedicated shoppers everywhere, I’m starting on next year’s list.

It’s time to scour the mall for winter bargains, and I always shop best on a full tummy. On any good shopping excursion, I enjoy stopping in to Pizza Zeppole and Yogurt Plus for some refreshment along the way. And I have to admit that I tend to order the same thing: a slice of pepperoni pizza and a Mountain Dew — a great combination, but as I stopped in for this review I decided that I just had to try something new, something I had never had before at this little oasis in the mall.

To my sweet surprise, the choices are much more plentiful when you really take time to look at the menu. With a love of things on the spicy side, I was tempted first of all by the Cajun grilled chicken, but a taste of the Mediterranean with a Greek salad or gyro was also tantalizing.

However, since I was power shopping, some carbs might be helpful, and thus I turned to the pasta menu. There was spaghetti marinara, spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna and fettuccini alfredo.

And, of course, there were some American favorites that also sounded appealing: hamburgers, cheeseburgers or a pork tenderloin with onion rings, cheese fries, french fries or cheese balls.

How’s a girl to choose? Finally, I found the combination choices and ordered the lasagna and a bread stick. While it arrived in only a few minutes, it tasted like it had been cooking just for me all morning. The tomato sauce was rich and dripped from my lips as I devoured the lasagna. The bread stick was hot and crusty, and all together delicious.

My only regret is that there was no room left for the frozen treat menu, including soft serve yogurt and ice cream. But I was so glad that I had finally broken out of my routine and discovered just how varied the menu is at this little place we pass during every visit to the mall.

Now as for the carbs and calories I consumed, two trips around every nook and cranny in the mall is reportedly a full mile. Got to go; I’ve got some laps to do.
