Posted January 09, 2013 in Community Featured, Norwalk

DebMinehart-NORaaaI hope everyone had a great Christmas. A new year is now upon us and with that brings all new possibilities. What will 2013 bring for you? Will you be hiring more employees? Expanding your business? Introducing a new product? Whatever you may be doing, please don’t forget to let the Chamber know so we can help you promote your possibilities.

On Jan. 14, the Greater Des Moines Partnership, along with the area affiliate Chambers, will be hosting the Legislative Opening Night reception at the Community Choice Credit Union Conference Center (Vets Auditorium) for the 85th Iowa General Assembly.  Cost for Chamber members is $15 and $30 for non-members. You can register at www.desmoinesmetro.com/events. This is a great chance to meet legislators and sample food from area vendors.

On Jan. 25, the Norwalk Area Chamber of Commerce will recognize our banquet honorees, and the public is invited to attend.  Winners for the 21st Chamber annual banquet are: Business of the Year, Capital City Fruit; Chamber member of the Year, Kelly Cortum; Citizen of the Year, Linda Bussanmas; Teacher of the Year, Lisa Popken; and Student of the Year, Lily Clark. Our guest speaker is Sarah Pratt (the butter cow lady). Tickets are $40 each or a table for $310 and should be ordered no later than Friday, Jan. 18 by contacting the Chamber at 981-0619 or sending an email to norwalkchamber@msn.com. The banquet will be held at Echo Valley Country Club and starts at 6 p.m..

On Jan. 26, RAGBRAI will be announcing the 2013 host cities and the bike route. Will Norwalk be one of them? If we do get selected, we will need to count on the whole community to help out in this big endeavor to make sure Norwalk was one of the best overnight towns on the route.

Volunteers needed
The Norwalk Area Chamber of Commerce, City of Norwalk and Norwalk Community Schools will be the hosts for the 25th anniversary of the Chinese Association of Iowa’s new year’s celebration on Feb. 2. We are asking the public’s help in volunteers. We will need 20 volunteers on Friday, Feb 1 from  5 – 9 p.m. and 40 volunteers on Saturday for two-hour increments starting at 9 a.m. and continuing until 11 p.m. So if you are available, please contact the Chamber office at 981-0619 for a time slot. A huge thank you to you in advance.

Our membership drive is continuing, so if you own a business, work for a business outside of the Norwalk area but live in Norwalk, conduct business in Norwalk or if you just personally would like to support the Norwalk Area Chamber of Commerce, please drop by or email us for a Membership Form.
