Baptism of the Lord

St. John’s Catholic Church will celebrate the Baptism of the Lord on Jan. 13.

The first Sunday after Epiphany will be celebrated at St. John’s Catholic Church, 720 Orchard Hills Drive, with the Baptism of the Lord service on Sunday, Jan. 13.

The Knights of Columbus will serve a pancake breakfast after Mass. This celebration of John’s baptism of Jesus will be followed by the First Week of Ordinary Time on Monday, Jan. 14. On the liturgical calendar, Ordinary Time begins on the day after the celebration of the Lord’s baptism and continues until the day before Ash Wednesday. St. John’s invites you to celebrate through the remainder of the season of Epiphany and into Ordinary Time at 5 p.m. on Saturdays and at 9 a.m. on Sundays. Catholics Christmas CD  is now available at St. John’s and other Catholic churches. The CD was made by the Catholic Community of greater Des Moines.  Cost is $15 each, or three for $40. It features more than 100 songs by musicians from 18 different Catholic churches in the Des Moines area as well as Dowling Catholic High School. Proceeds from the sale of CDs will benefit individual churches as well as support the Iowa Catholic Radio. Call St. John’s Catholic Church to secure your copy. 515-981-4855.

On Jan. 13, Crossroads Church, 2601 Border St., is beginning the series “Clean and Clear.” The first week, will be focused on the sharing aspect of the Crossroads purpose statement. The discussion will talk about how to overcome envy. Continuing on Sunday, Jan. 20, they will talk about “Bitter or Better,” discussing how it is possible to  overcome bitterness that can make sharing our lives with others challenging.

Crossroads kids provides exciting experiences for infants, toddlers, preschoolers (Kid Junction), and grade-schoolers through fifth grade (K’Motion). Services begin at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays.
