Michael W. Kent, MD, 67 died peacefully on Sunday, January 6, 2013, after a long battle with melanoma. Dr. Kent was a gifted urologist and esteemed member of the Des Moines medical community. Inspirational to those who knew him, he was above all a good man and very devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Born March 27, 1945 in Scottsbluff, NE, Dr. Kent, or Mike as he was known, graduated from Regis University in Denver, Colorado and Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago. He completed his residency training at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.

Mike spent his life demonstrating the qualities we all value. He was a kind and sweet man whose quick wit and humor combined with his positive outlook touched everyone he met. He worked tirelessly for his patients, friends and family. He enjoyed his running club, the Iowa Hawkeyes, as well as skiing and hiking at Steamboat Springs. But mostly he loved spending time with his beloved children and grandchildren, his affection for them was undying.

Mike is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cecelia; children, Michael (Eve) Kent of Des Moines and Suzanne (Mike) Parkin of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Andrew, Aaron, Calvin, and Abigail Kent, Jackson, Emma, and Connor Parkin. He is also survived by his siblings, Dr. Jack (Virginia) Kent of Baton Rouge, LA, Doug (Louise) Kent of Scottsbluff, NE, and Jody (George) Briner of Grand Junction, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norm and Helen Kent.

Funeral services will be held at 10am Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at St. Augustin Catholic Church. Visitation will be 5-7pm on Tuesday, January 8, with a vigil service beginning at 7:00p.m., at the church. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to The Porto Clinic at Creighton University, Anawim Housing, Dowling Catholic High School, or the charity of your choice.
