David Winger, 55, died Sunday, January 6, 2013, at HCI Kavanagh House in Des Moines from complications of a massive stroke. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Iles-Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel where the family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Private inurnment will be held at a later date.
David was born October 11, 1957, in Des Moines and graduated from Urbandale High School in 1976. He has worked at Interstate Battery for the past five years. David was an avid Cubs Fan, Kansas City Chiefs Fan and wrestling fan, especially for Urbandale High School. He loved coaching his son, Eddie, in wrestling, football, baseball, and rugby. David never missed a game. He enjoyed playing with his three cats and dog. Dave enjoyed spending time with his mom and dad and brothers and sister. One of his favorite things to do was going out to eat with his wife, Johnna, at Jesse’s Embers.
David is survived by his wife of 21 years, Johnna, son, Eddie of Des Moines, his parents, Ed and Connie Winger of Urbandale; and his siblings, Douglas (Kathy) Winger of Urbandale, Dennis (Cindi) Winger of Windsor Heights and Pamela (Craig) Carson of Decorah; his grandfather, Ted Nelson of Florida and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
