February 27, 1926 – January 6, 2013
John Lammey, 86, of Pleasant Hill, passed away early Sunday morning, January 6, 2013. He is survived by his loving wife, Cora; and three children, Artie (Sherie) Lammey of Hanover, MN, Patricia (Todd) Outlaw of Houston, TX, and Howard (Sue) Lammey of Des Moines. John had four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
John was born in Percy, IA to Wesley and Mabel Lammey on February 27, 1926. On June 20, 1948, he married the love of his life, Cora Brown, in Indianola, IA. During their 64 years of marriage, John and Cora lived 28 years in Des Moines, 30 years on Lake Rathbun, and six years in Pleasant Hill. John served as an Army Private during the Korean War. He worked several years as a trained machinist, followed by several years as a sheet metal worker.
John loved to fish and was an avid bowler. During his retirement years, he enjoyed bird watching and identifying the various breeds. Almost daily John would patiently work his way through either a picture puzzle or word puzzles. He was extremely talented at wood working and many people benefited from his handiwork at home, church, and his retirement home. He whistled beautifully and would bless his family with tunes now and then while he worked around the house.
John served as church trustee twice and in his retirement years attended Grace Community Baptist Church in Pleasant Hill. He made church a priority for his family with consistent weekly attendance at Galilee Baptist Church in Des Moines. His heart to serve was exemplified while maintaining and repairing the churches he attended throughout his life.
No services are planned at this time. John will be greatly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
