Altoona, IA – Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa and Mid-Iowa Council, Boy Scouts of America are excited to kick off the 4th Annual Governor’s Luncheon for Scouting, set to take place on Wed., Jan 9th, 2013 at Meadows Events and Conference Center.

Hundreds of business and civic leaders from around the state are expected to attend this year’s unique fundraising event, where community members will have the chance to help support our future leaders by making a contribution to the organizations.

Guests will also hear from Governor Terry Branstad, as well as from several Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, who will discuss the personal impact Scouting has had on them.

“We are very excited for this year’s luncheon and are so thankful for the continued support we have received from community members, business leaders, parents and teachers. They are truly helping us build the leaders of tomorrow,” Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa CEO Jamie Boersma said.

The organizations hope to raise a total of $250,000 this year, after bringing in a total of $203,000 last year.

“Those funds have a direct effect on our future leaders. Community members are helping ensure that these young men and women have bright futures ahead of them,” Robert Hopper, CEO of Mid-Iowa Council, Boy Scouts of America said.

Nearly 40,000 Iowa boys and girls are part of today’s Scouting adventures and tomorrow’s Scouting legacies. The tradition now spans a century for both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.
