Urbandale, IA – December 21, 2012 – The Urbandale Pool, which had closed on August 27 for annual maintenance and to address the failing pool liner, will reopen on January 5, 2013. After evaluating the condition of the pool liner in August, it was determined that the liner needed to be replaced, removed or another solution completed. After reviewing all the options available, the City Council voted to approve replacing the liner at a cost of $47,000.
“After evaluating all the options, the City Council decided that replacing the pool liner provided the most expedient way to get the pool back open and provide safe swimming for our patrons,” said Jan Herke, Director, Urbandale Parks and Recreation. “We are resuming our usual aquatic classes and programs for January. Patrons may view a complete list of classes and registration instructions at www.urbandaleparksandrec.org or via the printed Winter/Spring 2013 Program Guide mailed to residents on December 11. The Program Guide is also available at the Parks and Recreation Office, Urbandale Library, Senior Center and Swimming Pool.
The Urbandale Pool is the area’s only indoor pool and is open year-round. It hosts public/recreational swim hours as well as lap swimming and water exercise classes. A detailed pool schedule is available at urbandalepool.org. For more information, contact Jan Herke, director, Urbandale Parks and Recreation at 515-331-6793.
