Tackle Your New Year’s Resolutions

libraryadjNew year. New Year’s resolutions. Let the Johnston Public Library help you fulfill your New Year’s resolutions with some of our great resources including books, magazines, DVDs, online sites and more.

Resolution  No. 1: Exercise. We all know we should be exercising, so why not make it fun? Add some variety into your workout routine with some new exercise DVDs and books. Here are just a few to help you flex your muscles: Functional Fitness: Younger in 30 Days DVD, Fit Family Fun Circuit DVD and “Women’s Health Big Book of 15 Minute Workouts” by Selene Yeager.

Resolution No. 2: Eat healthfully. We have a multitude of tasty, healthy-eating cookbooks to help you add spice, variety and health to your family’s menu. Check out some of these great cookbooks in our nonfiction section, and don’t forget to try out Zinio for free online subscriptions to some of your favorite food magazines. Here is a sampling: “Eat This, Not That! 2013: The No Diet Weight Loss Solution” by David Zinczenko, “True Food: Seasonal, Sustainable, Simple, Pure” by Andrew Weil, “The Cleaner Plate Club” by Beth Bader, “Everyday Food Magazine” from Zinio and “Food Network Magazine” from Zinio.

Resolution  No. 3: Learn a new language. This is your year to learn a new language. Let us help you do it with Mango Languages, our new online database available for free for Johnston cardholders through our website at This online language learning tool combines everyday conversation skills, memory building strategies and interactivity. It’s engaging, easy to use and it works. Stop in and speak to a reference librarian to have your questions about Mango answered.

Resolution  No. 4: Get finances in order. It’s personal finance made easy. Check out some of these informative financial planning books from the leading experts in the field:
“All The Money in the World: What the Happiest People Know About Getting and Spending” by Laura Vanderkam, “Securing Your Financial Future” by Chris Smith and “The Seven Pearls of Financial Wisdom by Carol Pepper.

Resolution No. 5: Enjoy life. The library is your one-stop culture shop. Enrich your life with the latest James Patterson thriller or the newest biography. We have fiction, nonfiction, ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, online magazines, graphic novels, cake pans, puppets, DVDs blu-rays, books, portabooks, CDs and so much more.
