Now that “the season” of giving is behind us, local churches remind that every day is a good day to give, and January is an especially crucial time to keep that in mind.

The sparse shelves at the Perry Food Pantry stand as evidence of these trying times. That’s why Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church has a shopping cart to gather collections for the pantry.

There is more need than ever after the hustle and bustle of the holidays, and many families continue to look to the Perry Food Pantry for help. Items may be dropped off at any time and will be delivered during the last week of each month. For more information about the Perry Food Pantry, call (515) 465-5158. To donate, stop by Mt. Oliver Lutheran at 920 15th St.

With the new year comes the challenge of keeping those promises we’ve made to ourselves to improve, whether in mind, body or spirit. Self-improvement is nourished by several faith-based programs offered in the community, especially at Crossroads Church.

Crossroads Church of Perry invites everyone to join in its many Life Groups, offered for all ages, from its Ignite youth group, Awana Clubs, Ladies’ Bible Study, Celebrate Recovery and Life Group. Awana, whose meetings are held at First Baptist, and Ignite, which meets every Wednesday from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m., are both geared toward teaching children and teens how the Bible applies to everyday life. Ladies’ Bible Study and prayer session meets each Monday morning at 9 a.m. Crossroads Church’s Celebrate Recovery program applies to those experiencing pain and difficulties in life, with an emphasis on struggles with addictions — whether from personal afflictions or those of loved ones. This creates a safe environment for discussion and forgiveness and meets each Saturday from  to 9 p.m.

These programs are offered by Crossroads to give the congregation and community of Perry a place to worship and learn about God within these age-appropriate groups. To join in on the fun, devotion and celebration of God, contact Crossroads Church at (515) 465-5478, or stop by and see what it’s all about at 2810 First Ave.
