Leon Vandike, age 98 of Centerville, Iowa died Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Centerville Nursing and Rehab Centerville, Iowa.
Leon was born March 26, 1914 south of Exline, Iowa the son of Roy and Rose (Baughman) Vandike. Leon graduated from Exline High School in 1932. He was united in marriage with Betty Jane Johnson on February 13, 1943. He drove a truck for 35 years and owned Centerville Sanitation. He also farmed, working was his hobby. He served in the Seabees during WWII, was a member of the American Legion and the First United Methodist Church, Centerville.
He is survived by a son Roger (Janis) Vandike of Tucson, Arizona, a daughter Charlotte (Larry) Bradley of Centerville; four grandchildren, Jared (Christy) Huish of Nixa, MO, Justine Huish of Centerville, Michael Vandike of Seymour, Iowa, Todd Vandike of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; three great grandchildren Britney Huish, Jacob Huish, Dylan Huish all of Nixa, MO.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, a son Wayne, brothers Ralph and Chester.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 5th at Lange Funeral Home & Crematory, Centerville with Pastor Kay Singley officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:30pm to 2pm before the funeral service.
Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery, Centerville. A memorial has been established to Mercy Hospice, Centerville and may be left or mailed to 1900 South 18th St, Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
