Betty A. Warnke, age 86, of Carroll died Sunday, December 30, 2012, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, January 3, 2013, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll. The Dahn & Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll is in charge of arrangements, where friends may call from 5 pm to 7 pm on Wednesday, January 2, 2012. Jan Hoff will be the organist and Marvin Toft will be the vocalist. Casket Bearers are Todd Warnke, Steve Wyss, Kent McDonald, Paul Schmidt, Kenneth Golding and Eugene Boell. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery at Carroll. The casket will be moved to church Thursday at 8:30 AM for viewing until time of the service.

The family respectfully requests that gifts be in the form of donations to the Alzheimers Association.

Betty A. Warnke, age 86, of Carroll died Sunday, December 30, 2012, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.

She was born June 5, 1926, the daughter of Herbert and Alma (Tharp) Trafford, on a farm in Glidden Township, Carroll County, Iowa. Betty attended school in Glidden and graduated from Glidden High School in 1943. She then worked for the Glidden Telephone Company.

On December 14, 1944, Betty was united in marriage with Norman Warnke at her parents’ home. Betty and Norman farmed with his parents for ten years and then with Virgil and Ida Boellon for three years. In 1957 they moved into Carroll. Betty then worked for H.R. Cleaners, Wilkes Drug and later for the Carroll Apothecary.

Sewing of all kinds was a favorite pastime. Quilting at church, homemaking, television, word puzzles, gardening, flowers, crafts and reading books were good times for her. Betty was very talented in these areas. She liked to walk for exercise. Above all, Betty cherished spending time with her grandchildren.

Betty is survived by: her husband Norman Warnke of Carroll; a daughter Judith McDonald of Arvada, Colorado; a son John Warnke and wife Marta of Carroll; six grandchildren: Kent McDonald and wife Nicki; Tammy Wyss and husband Steve; Tracy Finley; Todd Warnke and wife Susan; Shanna Warnke and Kelli Warnke; seven great-grandchildren: Jake and Ben McDonald; Emma, Sam and Lucy Wyss; Bella Finley and Marin Warnke; a brother-in-law Phillip Golding of Clear Lake; sisters-in-law Sue Trafford of Bonair, Georgia, and Lenora Warnke of Carroll; and by other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Norman’s parents; brothers: Robert Trafford and wife Alice; Donald Trafford and Bertram Trafford; sisters Leora Patterson and husband Fred; Alta Peterson and husband John; Ida Boell and husband Virgil; Lola Golding and Norma Martin and husband Dick; two brothers-in-law: Kenneth and Lyle Warnke; and two sisters-in-law Dolores Mullins and Bernice Warnke.
