Evelyn Hunter Burger, 98, passed away on December 24, 2012 at Southridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Marshalltown, Iowa. Services will be held at the Waukee Christian Church in Waukee, Iowa, on Saturday, December 29, 2012. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. prior to the services. Funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. with burial at the Waukee Cemetery to follow.
Evelyn was born on February 16, 1914, in Waukee to Fleat Riley and Vera Melissa Stump and was the youngest of four girls. She graduated from Waukee High School with the Class of 1931 and was united in marriage to Burton Hunter on November 26, 1931. After Burton’s death she married Harold Burger of Waukee. She was a homemaker until her three children were raised and she then worked at the Brenton Bank in Waukee. From her early childhood until into her nineties she was an active member of the Waukee Christian Church. Evelyn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was an excellent cook and her cherry pie was most popular with her grandchildren!
Evelyn is survived by a son Dean (Janice) of Parkville, MO; a daughter Karen (Chuck) Colwell of Marshalltown, IA; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands Burton Hunter and Harold Burger; daughter and son-in-law Greta and Ernest Shearer; and her three sisters.
