Looking Back, Moving Forward

Posted December 26, 2012 in Pleasant Hill

This is the time of year when people often take time to reflect on the past and look ahead to the future. As we prepare to close the door on 2012 and move ahead to 2013, Pleasant Hill Living visited with members of the Berean Assembly of God Church and asked residents to share what they remember most about the past year and what they are most looking forward to in the next.

Their answers ranged from prosperity and hope to new pets and family vacations.

“What comes to my mind mostly is a spirit of rejoicing at my church. We’ve gone through so much, but now we have a pastor who has brought it all together, and now I can’t wait to get there. When you give you get, and you get an awful lot, and that’s the joy of the whole year.”

What are you looking forward to in 2013?
“My daughter and her husband in Orlando, and they’ve been through some tough times. He’s an excellent carpenter, and he was taking odd jobs. But he didn’t have a car or truck, but he had the skills. Then a neighbor who had moved away called him and asked him to help her dad. So on Veterans day, they went and got there to find out the Dad is an excellent carpenter and told them he didn’t need help but that he’d retired. He had this beautiful van all set up, it had all the stuff in there and it was a gift to my son-in-law. He had to pay a dollar. What a blessing. They were looking and looking for another vehicle. So what is 2013 going to bring? Much good. “

What do you remember about 2012?
“One thing that stands out with me is my son (Craig Gillen) came over this year and spent all day, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., helping me cook Thanksgiving dinner. He loves to cook, and everybody else showed up at 3, but from 10 to 3 it was just my son and myself. That meant a lot to me because I don’t see a lot of him, so that stood out to me. I have a grandson who is a youth pastor now, and he started working in Knoxville, and that makes me very proud. And everyone is healthy.”

What are you looking forward to in 2013?
“I have a couple young people in my life that I’d like to see come back to church.”
