Captive Free will perform at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Centerville in January.

Captive Free, a musical group of Lutheran college students who travel the U.S. bringing music and ministries to congregations, will perform twice at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 410 E. Sheridan Ave., Centerville in January.

A Saturday evening concert is planned, which is free and open to the public. Time is to be announced. A concert will also be performed for the congregation and guests after the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service. For times and details, refer to the website at www.firstlutherancenterville.org or call 641-856-3937.

A milestone was reached at the Christian Church of Moulton, 103 N. Vine St., recently. As the first Christian church in Appanoose County, a small wood-framed building was originally constructed in 1868. It was replaced in 1890 with a larger wood-framed building and served the Moulton congregation for 37 years before being leveled by a devastating fire in 1927. Through insurance and member donations, $10,000 was quickly raised to build the current brick church building. The cornerstone was laid 85 years ago on Nov. 21, 1927. The building was finished over the winter, dedicated in March of 1928 and is still in use today. An educational wing was built in 1968 to serve the growing needs of the church.

Typically held on the first Tuesday of each month, LifeServe Blood Center (formerly The Blood Center of Iowa) will hold the monthly Appanoose County blood drive at Grace Tabernacle Church, 914 N. Park St., on Tuesday, Jan. 8, from noon to 5 p.m. LifeServe Blood Center relies on donations from donors to maintain an adequate blood supply for the community. As a donor, you can become a member of LifeServe and schedule your donor appointments online at www.lifeservebloodcenter.org, or you can call the LifeServe office for an appointment at 1-800-287-4903.

First Presbyterian Church, Drake Avenue Christian Church and First Evangelical Lutheran Church will host a Peace Service on Sunday, Jan. 20, at 6:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 102 N. Main St. in Centerville.
