Norman McCune

Norman James McCune, 64, of Woodward, formerly of Des Moines, suddenly passed from this life on Tuesday evening, December 18, 2012, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, December 21, at Assumption Catholic Church in Granger. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 22, at the church. Burial will follow at Woodward Cemetery in Woodward.

Norman was born on October 4, 1948 in Boston, MA, to Arthur L. and Thelma L. (Richards) McCune. He was a 1966 graduate of Tech High School in Des Moines. On August 31, 1991, Norman was united in marriage to Jody Ann Wade in Des Moines. For nearly 40 years, he was employed as a Tool and Dye Technician with John Deere Works in Ankeny, until his retirement in April of 2012. He had also served with the National Guard. Norman loved sports of all kind, and was a loyal and avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, Iowa State Cyclones and of course the Woodward-Granger Hawks. One of Norman’s loves and joys in life was watching all his kids in various sport events and very seldom missed any. Norman also coached many youth athletic teams, including flag-football and baseball in Woodward. He loved spending time with his family and friends; Norman will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 21 years, Jody McCune of Woodward; four children, Kierre (Shelly) McCune of Maryland, and Sydney, Andrew and Olivia McCune all at home; one brother, Arthur Jr. (Marsha) McCune of Maryland; five siblings-in-law, Don (Kathy) Wade, Marsha (Daryl) Charlet and Jane (Bob) Barker all of Woodward, Dick (Chris) Wade of Council Bluffs, IA and Bill (Kathy) Wade of St. Charles, IL; two grandchildren, Pamela and Kierre Jr.; and a host of many nieces, nephews and friends.

The family has respectfully requested that any memorial contributions be made to the Norman McCune Memorial Fund.
