This past week I have been thinking about normal winter activities that are recreation related. Since we really did not have these activities available last year, many kids (and adults) are excited for snow. Listed below are some ideas to have fun in the snow and ice.
At Brewer Creek Park we have a great hill (formerly known as hospital hill) that provides sledding for all ages. Unfortunately we do not have the park shelter available
Weather permitting we hope to have ice skating at Nokomis Park in a week or two. Please contact the front desk at Fuller Hall at 832-9193 to find out the conditions.
Cross Country Skiing/Snow Shoeing
All parks are available to cross country ski or snow shoe. A few years ago the Recreation Department partnered with the Hamilton County Conservation Department and was awarded a grant for a cross country ski grooming machine. This machine is used to groom the trails at both the Briggs Woods Golf Course and Briggs Woods Park. A special thank you to Pete Neumeister for volunteering to operate the ski grooming machine. Please contact the Conservation Department at 832-9570 for a ski grooming trail condition report. In the past they have also had cross country skis available to rent, as well as a workshop to show persons how to ski or snow shoe.
Have a great Christmas.
