Shannon Magnani

Shannon Patrick Magnani, 43, passed from this life on December 16, 2012 at his home. Although he was taken far too soon, he leaves behind a legacy of love and passion that will live on among those who knew him.

Shannon was born on May 7, 1969 in Des Moines to Raymond and Carolyn Magnani. He was a proud graduate of Dowling Catholic High School, where he was a member of the swim team. Shannon served in the U.S. Army, with postings at stations both stateside and in Germany. He later received his associate’s degree from DMACC and employed his artistic imagination as a freelance graphic artist and designer.

Through his travels with the Army and time spent living across the country, Shannon touched many lives and made friends who turned into family. He lived life to the fullest, always maintaining a deep compassion for others and serving as a mentor to friends and family alike. Shannon had a fierce love for the Green Bay Packers, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Apple computers. He will remain known among his friends and family for his infinite knowledge on an unending array of subjects.

Shannon is survived by his parents, Raymond and Carolyn Magnani of Johnston; sister and brother-in-law, Sherry and Greg Drake of Madrid; nieces, Natasha Drake of Denver, CO and Nadia Drake of Des Moines; grandmother, Elaine Gannon of Johnston; as well as many uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Shawn Thomas; and grandparents, Thomas Heral Gannon, Joe and Nettie Magnani.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel on Hickman Road. A brief memorial service will commence at 7 p.m. in the Chapel. As part of this remembrance, friends and family are invited to openly share memories of Shannon. A private burial will be held at a later date. In honor of Shannon’s commitment to others, the family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Des Moines Area Religious Council Food Bank. Online condolences will be welcomed at
