After returning from the service, John returned to farming as a bachelor for 13 years. On December 28, 1965, he married Phyllis Cullenbine at St. John’s Catholic Church in Ogden, Iowa. After their marriage they continued to farm. After he quit farming, they moved into Beaver, Iowa. John worked for a few years for YW Hybrid in Grand Junction. The business named changed to NC Hybrids, and he continued working there, while still raising his sows and little pigs.
In December 1987 they moved to an acreage west and north of Jefferson, Iowa. He worked part-time for Barrett’s NAPA store delivering parts. He kept on raising sows and pigs until 2004 when he retired because of health reasons.
