The members of Trinity Lutheran Church, 801 W. Lincoln Way in Jefferson, invite you to join them for an Advent Dinner on Wednesday evenings in December. Dinner is followed by an Advent service.
The dinner, served at 5:30 p.m. by a group within the church, is free and open to the community, though a free-will offering is asked. The Advent service begins at 7:30 p.m.
“This is the first year we’ve offered these Advent dinners and service,” says Pastor Timothy Jones. “I was called here in March and saw the Wednesday evening events as a way for parishioners to prepare for Christmas together.”
The subject of the 7:30 p.m. service will be based on the hymn “From Heaven Above to Earth I Come,” a hymn written in 1531 by Martin Luther for his 5-year-old son, Hans. It was traditionally sung at Luther family gatherings on Christmas Eve.
Pastor Jones moved to Jefferson in March of 2012 after serving at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bennett since 2004.
“I greatly appreciate it,” says Jones of his new community. “Bennett is a 400-person town. I am originally from St. Paul, Minn., so I like the larger size of Jefferson. It’s a great town.”
Christmas services at Trinity Lutheran Church will begin with a candlelight service at 5:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24. A communion service will also be offered at 9:30 a.m. on Christmas morning.
For information on the Advent suppers and services call the church office at 515-386-3517 or online at www.showcase.netins.net/web/Trinity.
