Ewald O. “Tex” Stock, age 78, passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll with Fr. Timothy Schott, Fr. Dennis Miller, and Fr. Lawrence McCarty concelebrating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:00 on Monday where there will be a Rosary by the Carroll 4th Degree Knights of Columbus at 4:00 P.M. and a Christian Wake Service at 7:00 P.M. by St. Lawrence Parish. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Tuesday where visitation will resume until the time of service. The Carroll Knights of Columbus will form an honor guard at the church. Music for the Mass will be by Marcy Anderson as pianist and Marybeth Ferring and Chuck Schott as vocalists. Lector for the Mass will be Katelyn and Nathan Pudenz. Gift bearers will be Tex’s children: Tom Stock and Theresa Pudenz. Eucharistic Ministers will be Jean Miller and Katie Schott. Casket bearers will be Doug Miller, Tim Schott, Frank Wagner, David Miller, Kenneth Stock, and Mike Gross. Honorary casket bearers will be Dee Naylor, Willie Hinners, Richard Daniels, Steve Anderson and Larry Bayless. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Tex’s name and memorials may be left at the funeral home or the church.

Born on January 21, 1934 at Shiner, Texas, he was the son of Otto and Mathilda (Proschko) Stock. He grew up in Shiner and graduated from Shiner High School in 1952. Following high school he moved to Houston where he worked for Laddish Manufacturing Company and later as a meat cutter for JMH Grocery Store. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1954 and served two years active duty and four years in the reserves. He was married to Kathryn Schott on June 24, 1961 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Perry by Msgr. Morris J. Powers. The couple lived in Perry where Tex worked for Fareway and later for Safeway Grocery Store as a meat cutter. Tex and Kaye moved to Denison and Cherokee before moving to Carroll in 1965 where he worked for Safeway as meat department manager and later Hy-Vee until he retired in 1992. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, the Charles Carroll Council 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, and the Streamline Royal Rovers. Tex enjoyed Polka dancing and reigned with his wife as the Prince and Princess of the Iowa Chapter of Po.L.K. of A. in 1988 – 1989. Tex and Kaye wintered at Trophy Gardens Resort at Alamo, Texas for 14 years. He enjoyed camping, woodworking and carving, gardening, traveling, and spending time with his family and many good friends.

Tex is survived by his wife Kaye of Carroll; a son Dr. Thomas Stock and his wife Debbie of Chester Springs, Pennsylvania; a daughter Theresa Pudenz and her husband Jeff of Creston, Iowa; two grandchildren: Katelyn Pudenz and Nathan Pudenz both of Creston; two sister-in-laws: Jean Miller and her husband Jim of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Mary Beth Ferring and her husband Jim of Dubuque, Iowa; a brother-in-law Charles Schott and his wife Katie of Perry; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Tex was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Irene Stock.
