Ruth Irene Sturtz, age 82, of Harrison Township, Boone County, Iowa, entered into rest on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the Northcrest Health Care Center in Ames, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 10, 2012 at 11:00 A.M., at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church located at 295 Spruce Lane in N.E. Boone County, Iowa with Rev. Michael Standfest officiating. Interment will be in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, next to the church.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 9, at the Walter ~ Schroeder Funeral Home at Fifth & Story Streets in Boone from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family present at this time to greet friends. Visitation will continue on Monday at the church from 9:00 a.m. to the time of service.
Ruth was born on June 30, 1930 in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of Lawrence Jennings and Elsie Amallia (Murken) Anderson. Ruth attended school at Franklin Elementary in Boone and graduated from Boone High School in 1949. On September 18, 1949, Ruth married Lyle Emmett Sturtz at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone.
On August 17, 1930, Ruth was baptized at the Trinity Lutheran Church. On March 25, 1945, Ruth was confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church. Ruth was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, N.E. Boone County, Iowa and was very active in her church with the Ladies Society, being a Sunday School Teacher with 1st and 2nd grades and served as Secretary/Treasurer for 25 years, served in the Zone Office, the L.W.M.L. (Lutheran Women Missionary League) and Vacation Bible School.
Ruth was a homemaker, and helped her husband with farming through the years. Ruth enjoyed making quilts for her grandchildren, fishing for catfish with her cane pole, gardening, canning. She enjoyed mowing around the farm with the Snapper and John Deere mowers. Ruth and Lyle enjoyed the hayrides, the walk and roll and other activities with the North Central Krysalis (MOSAIC).
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her two sisters, and one brother-in-law.
Ruth is survived by her daughters: Marie and Larry Mackie of Boone, Iowa; Colleen and Rev. Lyle Hansen of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; Jennalee Sturtz of Nevada; her six grandchildren: Brett Mackie of Boone, Iowa; Mollie Mae Fahrmann and her husband, Jeffrey of Ankeny, Iowa; Audra Thede and her husband, Nathan of Boone, Iowa; Micah Madsen and her husband, Nick of Birmingham, Alabama; Aaron Hansen of St. Charles, Missouri; and Charity Lane and her husband, Andrew of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; and her five great-grandchildren: Jordan, Cael, Colby, Samuel and Calla; her sister-in-law, Marie Janolis of Atascadero, California; her brother-in-law, Dale Heldt of Ogden, Iowa and numerous nieces and nephews.
