Jerald Doty

Funeral services for Jerald Doty, age 79, of Coon Rapids, will be Monday, December 10, 2012, at 10:30 AM, at the Johnson & Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids, with Pastor Lynn Gunderson officiating. Casketbearers will be John Nielson, Danny Sheeter, Rich Vaughn, Bryan Kennick, Trae Frohlich and Bryan Hildenberg. Visitation will be After 5 pm on Sunday, December 9, 2012, at the Johnson & Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids. Interment will be in the Coon Rapids Cemetery.

Jerald Dean, son of Vernon and Ruth (Huss) Doty, was born January 1, 1933, at home in Guthrie County, Iowa. He attended school in Guthrie Center. He then operated a bulldozer in Guthrie County and went logging in Oregon.

In 1957, Jerald was united in marriage with Bethel Sigler at Harlan, Iowa. Jerald and Bethel made their home South of Coon Rapids and at Glidden. He worked for the Ralston Coop, Albert Stenstrom, Garst and did road construction, and owned Doty’s Trucking, among other things. He retired only after his health declined.

In February of 2012, Jerald was diagnosed with lung cancer from which he died on Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at his home in Coon Rapids. He was 79 years of age.

Jerald enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, vegetable gardening, hunting, and going to the Northside to play cards. He was a craftsman, had a passion for animals. Jerald was a hard worker and took care of his family, adopting two children later in life.

Jerald is survived by his wife Bethel Doty of Coon Rapids; Sons: Randy Doty and wife Cindy of Pella; Ryan Doty of Coon Rapids; Roger Doty and wife Tiffany of Coon Rapids; a daughter Patricia Sutton of Des Moines; and at home in Coon Rapids a daughter Rayna Doty and son Rex Doty and two grandchildren Ragina and special friend Straton Evans and Reno Doty; other grandchildren are: Mindy, Ashley, Brenda, Raiden and Randa; five great-grandchildren: Kira, Jaylynn, Tanner, Trevin and Sage; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a step sister Ellen Joyce and her husband.
