Growing up in Iowa, it was always fun at this time of year to plan for the return of relatives at Christmas. There was baking to be done, Christmas decorations to be put up and the house had to be cleaned to perfection, not a speck of dust. However, most importantly, I wished for snow so Santa would bring everyone the gifts they had hoped for. In fact, I thought that was the reason that everyone always came back to Iowa for Christmas. Now I realize that it was probably my mom’s pecan pie and turkey, or was it the stories and the laugher that they always shared? Whatever, the holidays are a time for families and friends to put aside their differences and share the best of times and a few laughs.
This year the Adel Chamber has given Adel a brighter courthouse square to lighten up your holiday season. After a year or two without lights outlining the buildings on the south and west side of the square, the Chamber decided to invest in a commercial grade light cord and LED lights to adorn the buildings on all four of the blocks facings the courthouse. Since these lights are of a higher grade than the previous lights, we hope to have them on most of the year. Please take time to visit the square after the sun goes down and enjoy the lighted addition to Adel’s historic downtown.
It is hard to believe that the 2012 Chamber year is coming to an end, and we are starting our 2013 membership drive. Within the next two weeks, we will be sending out renewal forms to all 125 current members and invitations to any new businesses and family/individuals that wish to become members. For those of you interested in becoming a member, please give the Chamber a call at 515-993-5472 or stop by at 301 S. 10th St.
There are eight different levels of membership, however, the most common are Supporting at $250 for businesses. For those who run a business out of their home it is $125, a family membership is $100 or an individual is $75. Consider being a part of the Chamber for 2013.
Happy Holidays from the Chamber.
