Christmas Joy

Posted December 05, 2012 in Community Featured, Clear Lake

Children at Clear Lake United Methodist Church will be performing “The Christmas Shoe Tree” on Sunday, Dec. 9.

Christmas is upon us, full of holiday treats, cheer and the magic that fills the hearts of children and brings the holiday to life.

There is nothing more magical  to lead folks into the spirit of the season than the voice of a child. This year the children at Clear Lake United Methodist Church will perform their Christmas musical, “The Christmas Shoe Tree,” for their families and the congregation on Sunday, Dec. 9. Although the story of Christmas always touches our hearts, this year the message is extra special because the musical is performed in conjunction with the “Soles4Souls” shoe/charity drive, which aims to distribute shoes to people who need them for the upcoming winter months. Through scripture, songs and a heartwarming story, the Sunday school children of United Methodist will not only share the good news of Christmas, but also extend the message of God’s love by asking people to donate and collect shoes to be given to those in need all over the world.

Clear Lake United Methodist will also be extending the Christmas spirit throughout the month of December with three performances of its Christmas cantata, “Behold the Star!” The first celebration will be on Sunday, Dec. 16 at 5 p.m., when the choir will travel to the south side of the lake and present its cantata to the residents and staff of Apple Valley Assisted Living, many of whom are former choir members at UMC. On Wednesday, Dec. 19, the choir will be sharing its second performance at 7 p.m. with the residents of Lake Plaza Apartments. The final celebration of the choir’s Christmas performance will be a treat for the congregation on Sunday, Dec. 23 at 5:30 p.m. when the Sanctuary Choir will host and present a soup supper and final showing of the cantata, in which the congregation is always welcome to sing along.

The choir sings under the direction of Dick Morris and accompaniment by the worship organist and director of music, Mary Jane Crail.
