‘A Christmas Carol’ with Duffy Houdson

Posted December 05, 2012 in Community Featured, Clear Lake

Clear Lakers are in for a special Christmas treat as stage and film veteran Duffy Hudson returns to the library on Wednesday, Dec. 19, at 4 p.m.

Hudson will present a dramatic reading of excerpts from Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.” Hudson has previously appeared at the library as Edgar Allan Poe, Albert Einstein and presented the “Best of Dr. Seuss.” This free program is recommended for ages middle school through adult.

The library is “Holiday Central” if you are looking for seasonal resources on food, gifts, crafts, entertaining or Christmas stories. Some charming Christmas books that families can share include “Three French Hens” by Margie Palatini, Santa’s Book of Names” by David McPhail, “Angel Pig and the Hidden Christmas” by Jan Waldron “The Christmas Coat” by Clyde R. Bulla, “Santa Calls” by William Joyce and Tomie dePaola’s “Clown of God.” Another special Christmas book is “Angels and Other Strangers” by Newbery Award-winning author Katherine Paterson. Paterson’s husband is a minister, and many of the stories in this collection are Christmas sermons that she wrote for him.

There are many popular authors for adults who frequently gift their readers with a Christmas novel including Debbie Macomber, Karen Kingsbury, Anne Perry, Richard Paul Evans and Heather Graham. If you are in the mood for a movie, we have many children’s holiday films as well as Christmas classics for all ages including “The Nativity Story,” “It’s a Wonderful Life,” “A Christmas Carol,” “A Christmas Memory,” “Miracle on 34th Street” and “A Christmas Story.”

The library will also be hosting a post-Christmas celebration “Winter Wonderland Family Night,” an open house from 5 – 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27. There will be stories about winter and snow, and games and crafts that reflect the winter theme of our party. Please call the Children’s Desk at 357-0315 to sign up your family for this event.

As New Year’s Day arrives, we all shift our focus to the coming year with plans for new activities and adventures. Your library is always here to assist you with whatever plans you have for the new year. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you from the Clear Lake Public Library.
