Douglas C. Squibb, age 68, of Scranton, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2012 at the Carroll Health Center Nursing Home.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Scranton with Fr. Ries from Jefferson as celebrant. Visitation will be held at the Church from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service on Thursday. Music for the Mass will be by Richard Carey. Lector for the Mass will be Chad Promes. Gift bearers will be grandchildren: Britney Evans and Zachary Squibb. Burial will be in the Scranton Township Cemetery.
Born on December 22, 1943 at Mill Valley, California, he was the son of Doyle and Eva (Ault) Squibb. He graduated from Scranton High School in 1962. Following high school he worked for National Manufacturing and Stamping Company as a welder. He then became the chief of police in Scranton in 1980 and served in that capacity for several years. He was also a reserve deputy for Greene County and he served on the Scranton Fire Department and the Scranton First Responders. He was married to Janice K. Stangl on June 20, 1964. Doug was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Scranton. Doug was an avid NASCAR fan and followed Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr. faithfully. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, volunteering at the school, and spending time with his family, his grandchildren, and his many many friends.
Doug is survived by a daughter Michele Hickman and her husband Cecil of Bethany, Missouri; two sons: Michael Squibb and his wife Christy of Rochester, Minnesota, and David Squibb and his wife Tammy of Riverview, Florida; his nine grandchildren: Angela, Zachary, Joelle, Chad, Ashley, Megan, Britney, Breanda, and Douglas; a great granddaughter Journey; his mother and father-in-law John and Florine “Flo” Lohmann of Glidden; a brother Phil Squibb and his wife Vicki of Ames, Iowa; a sister Theresa Durlam and her husband Bruce of Jefferson; three sister-in-laws: Janine Allbritton and her husband David of Post Oak Bend, Texas, Joyce Wright and her husband Steve of Benedict, Nebraska, and Judy Beyer and her husband David of Carroll; one brother-in-law John Lohmann of Glidden; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
