Daniel J. Geisler, the of son of Edward Jr. and Mary (Coan Connelly) Geisler, was born July 30, 1958 at Jefferson, Iowa and departed this life November 30, 2012 at his sister Anne’s home in Churdan, Iowa. Dan courageously fought his cancer for three years; passing away at the age of 54 years and 4 months.
Daniel attended and graduated from the Paton-Churdan High School in 1976. During his life, Daniel worked for the Greene County Road Maintenance, farmed and operated Dan’s Push & Pull Excavation business. While living in Kansas City, Missouri, Dan volunteered to help with the horses of the Kansas City Mounted Police Department. In time, they hired him as operational manager of the horse barn. On May 10, 2010, Dan received the “Meritorious Award” from the Kansas City, Missouri Mounted Police Department for his service. Dan had said, “Took me 54 years to find my calling in life”. He had a great passion for the Kansas City Mounted Police. He considered them true friends; not just colleagues.
In February of 1989, Daniel was married to Joleen Liechti and they were later divorced in 1998.
Daniel was baptized and confirmed at St. Columbkille Catholic Church. Dan enjoyed woodworking, baking cookies, hunting, fishing and the whole outdoors. He loved horses, being with children and the company of his friends and family.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Geisler of Churdan, brothers and sisters; Sylvene Hatfield, Patrick (Marice) Geisler, John (Marian) Geisler, Jerry (Debra) Geisler, Anne (Joe) Minnehan, all of Churdan and Andy of Seattle, Washington and 6 nieces and 12 nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, a brother, David and a special friend, Trudy Beshey.
A memorial service was held at 10:30 AM Monday, December 3, 2012 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Churdan with Father Don Ries officiating. Burial was made at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery west of Churdan. Music selections were rendered by organist, Monica McGregor, cantor, Sheilah Pound and the St. Columbkille’s choir.
Honorary casket bearers were his nephews; John Geisler, Jr., Ryan Geisler, Todd Geisler, Kirk Geisler, Jason Hatfield, Spencer Geisler, Tyler Geisler, Jerad Mount, Bart Baugh, Ryan McIntosh and Craig Rose.
