John Herman Buelt, age 78, of Carroll and formerly of Glidden passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at the Carroll Health Center.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden with Fr. Timothy Johnson as celebrant assisted by Deacon Gary Schon. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 3:30 P.M. on Friday where there will be a Rosary at 4:00 P.M. and a Christian Wake Service at 7:00 P.M. by the Parish. Music for the Mass will be by the St. Elizabeth Seton Choir with Mary Ross as organist. Lector for the Mass will be Deacon Gary Schon. Gift bearers will be Ashley and Cody Buelt. Casket bearers will be Mark Polk, Andrew Buelt, Cody Buelt, Scott Young, Gary Williams, Brian Weber, and Tom Weber. Military honors will be conducted by the Arcadia American Legion following the Mass. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden at a later date.
Born on April 23, 1934 at Halbur, Iowa, he was the son of John Henry and Bertha (Testroet) Buelt. He grew up in Halbur where he attended Augustine Catholic School. John enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1955 and was stationed in California, Nevada, Arizona , and overseas in Tripoli. He was married to Martha Tigges on November 11, 1957 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dedham by Fr. Henry Pick. Following their marriage John had two years to serve in the military and then the couple made their home in Carroll. John and Martha moved west of Glidden in 1969 where he raised livestock and worked for Crouse Cartage. He was a member of the Pork Producers, the Glidden Planning and Zoning Commission, and he was named farmer of the year by the Glidden Men’s Club. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Parish in Glidden where he had served as Parish Director. John was a member of the Arcadia American Legion. John enjoyed raising pigs, being outdoors, golfing, going to the lake and sitting in the sun, going to coffee, country music, dancing, spending time with his family and friends.
John is survived by his wife Martha of Carroll; two sons: Brian Buelt and wife Doreen (Reiff) of Galesburg, Illinois, and Clark Buelt and his wife Kim (Ploeger) of Cedar Rapids; three daughters: Karla Polk and her husband Mark of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, Andrea Williams and her husband Gary of Rock Island, Illinois, and Shelly Young and her husband Scott of West Des Moines, Iowa; five grandchildren: Andrew, Ashley, and Allison Buelt, Cody Buelt, and Brady Williams; and one great granddaughter Mackenzie Polk; two brothers: Norman Buelt of Overland Park, Kansas, and Allan Buelt and his wife Barb of Omaha; four sisters: Lenore Lodge and her husband James of Sioux City, Iowa, Elaine Buelt of Carroll, Iowa, Carol Riesenberg and her husband Lou of Moscow, Idaho, and Mary Johnson of Tucson, Arizona; a brother-in-law Ron Ensley of Great Bend, Kansas; three sister-in-laws: Marie Eischeid of Halbur, Annie Sloup of Omaha, Susan Davis and her husband Dean of Glidden; and a brother-in-law Raymond Tigges and his wife Edna of Cedar Rapids.
