Services for Gladys Wilma (Christianson) Hancock, 88 of Perry, IA will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church in Perry. Visitation will begin after 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 26, 2012 with family receiving friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Murdock Funeral Home in Perry. Rev. Mark Holmes will officiate the service with musician Elta Summerson playing Amazing Grace and In the Garden. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Debbie Bender, Debbie Synowcynski, Dana Magnuson and Shelby George. Pallbearers will be: Doug Bender, Dean Magnuson, Jim Koltes, Scott Koltes, Daxson Leepart, Bradley George, Jonathan Hodges and Ryan Hodges. Burial will be in Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry. Gladys passed away November 21, 2012 at Mercy West Lakes in West Des Moines, IA.
Gladys Wilma (Christianson) Hancock was born in Trade Lake, WI on April 24, 1924 the daughter of Mulner P. and Alma (Rognlien) Christianson. After graduating from Frederic High School she attended college to pursue a degree in Accounting. She moved to Perry, IA from St. Paul, MN and opened H&R block and began work as a Tax Accountant to which she continued for 40 years. Gladys was united in marriage to Billy J. Hancock on October 23, 1965. She was a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary for over 48 years. She was a member of the Moose Lodge in Perry and the Perry Chamber of Commerce for many years. In her spare time, she was an avid bowler and continued to bowl well into her 80’s. Gladys was a member of Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church in Perry and taught Confirmation classes there. She loved to travel where ever the car would take her. Gladys organized her Frederic High School reunions in Frederic, WI.
Gladys is preceded in death by her parents, husband Billy in 1996 and 1 brother.
Gladys is survived by her son Rick (Julie) Leepart of Forest Lake, MN. Four daughters: Vickie (Jerry) Bender of Carroll, IA; Paulette (Ron) Magnuson of Crystal, MN; Patti (Tony) George of Runnells, IA and Beth Ann (Denny) Hodges of Granger, IA. One sister Helen Norgard of Milltown, WI. Two sister-in-laws; Myrtle McClatchey of Yale, IA and Jean Christianson of Moundsview, MN. 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Memorials in her name will be given to the Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church in Perry and Meals on Wheels and may be sent to:
