William E. Ganley, 87, passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at Hospice Kavanagh House in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 26, 2012 at 10:00 a.m., at the Basilica of St. John Catholic Church, with burial following at Glendale Cemetery.
William was born in Des Moines on May 21, 1925 to Florence and William J. Ganley. He attended St. Peter’s grade school and Dowling High School. William served in the U.S. Navy Sea Bees (construction battalion) during World War II. William married Genevieve Monahan in 1954. They were married 43 years until her death in 1997.
William was a salesman and retired from Kurtz Hardware. He was also the director of the L’Tueo Club for over 25 years.
William is survived by daughters, Deborah (Charles) King of Atherton, California and Jodi (Michael) White of Des Moines; son, Michael Ganley of Des Moines; foster children, Elizabeth (Mark) Rush, Teresa (Frank) Cooley and Michael (Rose Davila) Gay all of Des Moines; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mary Lucille Thomas of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and a sister, Agnes Cord.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 25 from 3-5:00 p.m., with a vigil service beginning at 5pm, at Iles Funeral Homes – Dunn’s Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Basilica of St. John Catholic Church, 1915 University Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50314.
