Holiday Time

Start your holidays right at the Waukee Public Library this season.

Come make a wide variety of holiday crafts, perfect for gift-giving from 10 a.m. to noon on Dec. 1. Kids of all ages invited. No charge or registration. Adults and older siblings are encouraged to come and lend a hand.

Author visit
Former Waukee resident Lora Lee Colter will talk about her first book, “The Concierge,” on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. Copies will be available for purchase. Refreshments will be served.

Annual Festival of Trees
The trees and wreaths will be lit on Thursday, Dec. 6 at 6:30 p.m., followed by refreshments and Pajamatime Stories. The Festival is a fundraiser to purchase new books. You may also support your library by purchasing a $1 vote for your favorite, purchasing a $5 ornament with your pet’s photo or by donating the purchase price of one book. Trees and wreaths will be on display through Wednesday, Dec. 19.

Erin McDonough reception
Please join the library staff in thanking Erin for her 6½ years of service to our community by attending a public reception on Saturday, Dec. 8, 1 – 3 p.m. in the library meeting room.

Book Discussion
Join us Tuesday, Dec. 18 at 1 p.m. for a discussion of “Hollowing Out the Middle: The Rural Brain Drain and What It Means for America,” by Patrick J. Carr and Maria J. Kefalas. Light refreshments will be served. Books are available at the desk.

Holiday hours
Closed Monday, Dec. 24 and Tuesday, Dec. 25. Open at 12:30 on Friday, Dec. 28. Closing at 5:30 on Dec. 31, and closed Jan. 1.

Children’s weekly programs
Parents, please bear with us this month as we are short-staffed and morning toddler and preschool programs have been combined.   No programs Dec. 24 – 31.

•    Babies & Books. For pre-walkers and a caregiver. Songs, books and rhymes. Mondays, 10 a.m.

•    Children’s Time. For toddlers through preschoolers. Songs, fingerplays, read-aloud stories and a craft. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, 10 a.m.

•    Playful Preschoolers. For ages 3 – 6. Read-aloud stories, songs, rhymes and a craft.  Tuesdays 2 p.m.

•    Pajamatime. For all ages. Wear your jammies and bring your teddy bear. Bedtime stories, songs, rhymes, and a craft.

Lego Club
Build with Legos. Saturday, Dec. 15, 1:30 – 3 p.m.
