Christmas Song

Posted November 21, 2012 in Community Featured, Waukee

Westview Church will host a children’s Christmas performance, “The Evening New Hour,” on Dec. 16.

There’s nothing better than the celebration of Christmas through the song and spoken words of a child.

The children 3 years old through sixth grade at Westview Church are excited to be performing their Christmas story, “The Evening New Hour,” for audiences on Sunday, Dec. 16 at 10:30 a.m. This is by far the largest service of the year at the church, and everyone in the community is welcome.

“We want anybody and everybody that wants to hear about Jesus’ birth story told through the eyes of our children to come and join us in the celebration of Him,” says Tyra Behnkendorf, who is the director of Children and Family Ministries at Westview. “There will be singing, acting, and it will be funny and engaging.”

The musical begins with the 3- and 4-year-olds singing “Away in the Manger” and “Silent Night,” followed by the performance of Christ’s birth story told from a reporter’s point of view by the kindergarten through sixth graders.

Following the show, Pastor Tom Clegg will give a shortened message that ties in the story of Jesus’ birth. For more information on the children’s Christmas musical contact Tyra at tyra@westview.org or stop into Westview to join in on the celebration at 1155 S.E. Boone Drive.

Another fun way to get into the holiday spirit and enjoy the season is the annual Cookie Walk Dec. 8 at Point of Grace Church. This is an opportunity to buy homemade treats for everyone on your gift list. Cookies can be purchased by the pound from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday and are made by Point of Grace’s congregation. Proceeds go to make Christmas possible for the Waukee Adopt-a-Family and Dallas County Shop With a Cop programs.

The morning will also include free coffee, hot chocolate, cider and fun and games for the children, including a place for children to decorate their very own cookies to take home. For more information on the Cookie Walk or other festivities taking place at Point of Grace Church, call (515) 987-9595, or join the merriment at 305 N.E. Dartmoor Drive.
