Donald Moriarty

Donald Harold Moriarty, age 96, of Cincinnati, Iowa died Friday November 16, 2012 at the Continental Care Center in Seymour. He was born on January 11, 1916 in Cincinnati, Iowa, the son of Markus and Mary (Ervin) Moriarty. He was a lifelong resident of the Cincinnati and Appanoose County.

On April 19, 1939, Donald was united in marriage with Verna Maxine Sutherland in Vinton, Iowa. He began working in the coal mines at age 15, he would spend over 16 years working in the mines. He was also a welder and a mechanic. He also farmed for many years in the Cincinnati area before retiring. He was a member of East Pleasant Church of Christ in Cincinnati, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Maxine on February 5, 1994; four brothers: Wayne, Max, Murle and Arley Moriarty, two sisters: Halycone Streepy, and Roma Reeves and a son-in-law Lloyd Valentine.

Donald is survived by: his son, Jimmie Dale Moriarty of Centerville, Iowa; daughters: Marles Potter and her husband, Raymond of Cincinnati, Iowa, Wyona Kay Bullard and her husband, Gene of Cincinnati, Iowa, Regina Gooden and her husband, Edward of Bloomfield, Iowa and Vicki Cowan her husband, Bill of Exline, Iowa; Donald’s Specical Friend, Fern Lowe of Centerville, Iowa; Brothers, Jack Moriarty of Busby, Montana and Larry Moriarty of Gillette, Wyoming; a sister Mary Alice Smith of State College, Pennsylvania; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 25, 2012 at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Eric Hoover officiating. Internment of Ashes will be held at a later date at Pleasant View Cemetery in Cincinnati, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be from 12 pm until time of services on Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials can be made to the activity department of the Continental Care Center or East Pleasant Church of Christ in Cincinnati, and may be mailed to the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa .
