John C. Wolf, Sr.

John C. Wolf, Sr., age 79, of 1228 Linn Street, died November 7, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services are Saturday, November 10, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Open Bible with Pastor Phil Waldo officiating. Burial will be in the Squire Boone Cemetery.

John was born in Pilot Mound on June 26, 1933, the son of Jerry and Evelyn (Free) Wolf.

On January 25, 1953, he married Loretta Stoneburner in Perry.

John served with the Iowa Army National Guard.

In earlier years, John worked on the family farm near Pilot Mound.

He then owned/operated his own auto mechanic shop in Madrid for three years.

John then worked for the Woodward State Hospital as a ward clerk for six years and worked part time with Jack Pickell Construction in Madrid.

Lastly, he worked for the City of Madrid in the public works department for 26 years retiring January 1, 1993.

John was a member of the Madrid Sportsman’s Club, the Madrid Fire Department, and Civil Defense in Boone.

He enjoyed fishing, bingo, woodworking, playing cards, and watching his grandchildren’s sporting events.

He also liked going to the Boone Speedway and watching his grandson race.

John liked to tinker around in his garage and he bought, repaired, and resold John Deere lawn tractors.

He loved his family and friends.

John is preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister Elaine, and a brother Ron Wolf.

He is survived by his wife Loretta of Boone; a son John C. Wolf Jr. and wife DeeAnn of Iowa City; four daughters Lori Kahler of Iowa Falls, Gladys Tilley of Boone, Donna Curvin and husband Steve of Boone, and Debbie Kuzmicki of Boxholm; a brother David Wolf of Pilot Mound; three sisters Judy Tingwald of Woodward, Margaret Peel and husband Don of Perry, and Kay Ray of Boone; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall on Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.

Visitation continues on Saturday at the Church an hour prior to the 10 a.m. service.

In memory of John, memorials may be directed to the family.
