Funeral services for Betty Smittle, 91, of Albuquerque, NM, formerly of Grand Junction, Iowa will be 1:30pm Thursday November 15, 2012 at First United Presbyterian Church in Grand Junction, Iowa. Interment will be in the Junction Township Cemetery, Grand Junction, Iowa. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 12 noon Thursday at First United Presbyterian Church in Grand Junction.
Betty Jean Smittle was born July 17, 1921 in Jefferson, Iowa to Bert and Muriel (Rhoades) Patrick. She was the fifth of seven children and graduated from Paton high school. Betty married Bob Smittle of Grand Junction, Iowa on November 7, 1939.
Betty worked with her husband Bob in an auto repair shop while living in Grand Junction during the 1960’s and she also served as president of the Grand Junction PTA. Following the death of her husband Bob in 1966, Betty worked in Iowa and California as an accountant.
Betty moved to Cave Junction, Oregon where she worked in banking and was able to spend time with her three sisters. After retiring she moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico to live with her son, Dick. Betty died at her son’s home on November 9, 2012 at the age of 91.
Betty was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Bob; her brother, Bob; and her sisters: Mildred, Iris, Phyllis, and Deon. She is survived by three sons: Bob (Kay) Smittle of Bella Vista, AR, Dick Smittle of Albuquerque, NM, and Bill Smittle of Kingsland, TX; one daughter, Susan (Gerald) Cessac of Albuquerque, NM; four grandsons: Bob, Tony, Kirk, and Nick; three granddaughters: Becky, Heather, and Carolyn; four great-grandsons: Austin, Victor, Lucas, and Noah; and three great-granddaughters: Jessica, Maryssa, and Tori. Also surviving is her brother, Jerry Patrick of Farmington, NM.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
