The library will host author, Bob Nandell, Tuesday, November 13 at 7:00PM. Bob Nandell will share photos and readings from his latest book, Maple Street Memories. Each poem in Maple Street Stories tells of the down-to-earth businesses and sturdy, tidy houses nestled under the leafy branches – and of the people who work and live there. Bob Nandell uses black and white photography to preserve images of a Midwest which is fading away, including back roads, small towns and people. A longtime newspaper photographer, Bob Nandell retired after 28 years with the Des Moines Register. Maple Street Stories is his fourth book of photos and poems.
The library also offers several book discussion groups throughout the month. Two adult book discussion groups are offered each month on the second Tuesday at 1:00pm and on the 3rd Thursday at 7:00pm. The YA&J adult book discussion group for those who enjoy reading young adult and juvenile fiction meets the fourth Monday of the month at 6:30pm.
Also, the library has a new book and movie discussion group for adults, which meets the first Tuesday of the month at 1:00 PM. One month watch the movie and read the book. The following month discuss the differences and strengths of each media to tell the story. November 6 at 1:00 PM discuss To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Next up in December and January will be The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly. Book & movie discussion is a great way to meet new people, enjoy a great film and book, and share a little popcorn.
