What do the Young Professionals Connection (YPC) and the Downtown Chamber have in common?
Networking events, professional development, and a connection to valuable resources is just the beginning. The obvious difference is the word “Young” – in this case meaning someone under 40 years of age. Take that word out and you have a “Professionals Connection”, and that is where Downtown Chamber and YPC combine most. In fact, the Downtown Chamber’s mission is to “Create Connections that Count!”
On Thursday, November 1st, there will be a YPC/Chamber Member Social event at The Standard, located at 208 3rd Street, Downtown Des Moines, from 5:00-8:00pm. Members from both organizations and of all ages are invited to attend. RSVPs are requested and can be completed on the Downtown Chamber Facebook page or by emailing to firstname.lastname@example.org.
“This year, we tried to introduce YPs to downtown businesses at our monthly morning meet-ups, and that was met with positive feedback,” says Shane Hefty, chair of YPC’s Impact Downtown committee. “It goes without saying that it was natural to partner with the Chamber on an event like this, and we’re hoping to continue the trend in 2013. In regards to this event and its venue, it makes perfect sense: Dante Heck (owner of The Standard) is both a YPC member and a Chamber member. No brainer.”
Providing an opportunity for professionals of all ages to come together, enjoy martinis at a savvy downtown location, and be entertained with the talents of Jason Walsmith from the popular Des Moines-connected band, The Nadas, is just another common sense idea with the common purpose great networking for members.
